These questions should help you focus your attention on key elements of each movie as they watch, and to develop a deeper understanding of how each movie approaches the theme of coming of age and the impact of social/political events on young people.   • How did the cultural and historical contexts of each movie impact the themes and story being told? Were there any specific events or cultural traditions that were particularly important to the story being told in each movie?

  • What are the key themes that emerge in each movie? How are these themes developed and explored throughout the story?

  • How do the characters in each movie experience coming of age? What challenges do they face, and how do they navigate these challenges? Are there any specific moments that stand out as particularly significant or transformative for the characters?

  • How are social and political events portrayed in each movie? How do these events impact the characters and their coming of age experiences? Are there any specific historical events or cultural traditions that are particularly important to the story being told?

  • How is the setting used to support the themes and story of each movie? Are there any specific aspects of the setting (such as the geography, climate, or cultural traditions) that are particularly important to the story being told?

  • How are the different elements of filmmaking (such as cinematography, sound, and editing) used to create mood and meaning in each movie? Are there any specific techniques or stylistic choices that stand out to you as particularly effective?
